Enclosed auto transport — frequently asked questions
Every question we hear about enclosed car shipping, answered directly. Jump to a category or scroll through.
Pricing & Cost
Enclosed transport typically costs $1,200–$5,000+ depending on distance, vehicle class, and booking window. Per-mile rates range from $1.30–$3.80 for exotics and $1.80–$3.20 for luxury vehicles. Short-haul shipments (under 500 miles) have higher per-mile rates due to fixed costs; long-haul rates are more efficient. Use the cost calculator on our site for a corridor-specific estimate.
How It Works
You request a quote (instant online or by phone). Citadel confirms pricing and assigns a carrier from our vetted network. A driver arrives at your address on the agreed date, creates a bill of lading documenting current condition, loads the vehicle onto the enclosed trailer, and transports it to your destination. You inspect at delivery, sign off, and the vehicle is yours.
Insurance & Claims
The carrier's cargo insurance covers the vehicle during transit. Most enclosed carriers in the Citadel network maintain $250,000–$500,000 in cargo coverage. For vehicles valued above $500,000, we confirm the carrier's specific limit matches or exceeds your vehicle's value before booking.
Timing & Scheduling
Transit time depends on distance: 1–3 days for under 500 miles, 3–5 days for 500–1,500 miles, 5–7 days for 1,500–2,500 miles, and 7–10 days for over 2,500 miles. Add 1–7 days from booking for carrier assignment and pickup scheduling. Total door-to-door from booking is typically 5–14 days.
Vehicle Types
Exotic and supercar (Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Bugatti, Pagani, Koenigsegg), luxury (Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, Mercedes-AMG, BMW M, Porsche), classic and vintage (pre-1990 collector cars, antiques, muscle cars), electric vehicles (Tesla Plaid, Lucid Air, Rivian, Porsche Taycan), and any high-value vehicle where open transport isn't appropriate.
About Citadel
Citadel is enclosed-only. We don't handle open transport or standard vehicles — our entire carrier network, vetting process, and customer service is built around high-value vehicles. This means drivers with documented exotic and luxury handling experience, trailers equipped for low-clearance loading, and protocols for vehicles where standard auto transport practices fall short.
