NHTSA received Porsche Cars North America's report for campaign 26V682000 on October 16, and it adds 548 vehicles to a stop-drive order that has been open since 2024. The defect is stated in one line: the center lock wheel bolt may fracture and cause the wheel to detach. The remedy language is just as short. Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until they have been repaired, and NHTSA has the campaign flagged park it. Dealers will check the center lock wheel fastening system and replace incorrectly manufactured parts at no charge. Porsche's internal number is ATA1, and owner letters are expected to go out December 15, 2026.
The affected cars are all 2024 model year, and the list is the expensive end of the range: 911, 911 Carrera GTS, 911 GT3, 911 GT3 RS, 911 Turbo, 911 Turbo S, 718 Cayman GT4 RS, and 718 Spyder RS. The campaign summary also names the 911 S/T. This expands campaign 24V809, which NHTSA received on October 28, 2024, covering 2,251 vehicles with the same defect, the same consequence, and the same instruction not to drive. VINs for the new population became searchable on nhtsa.gov on October 20.
The transport angle
A park-outside recall is a conversation. A stop-drive recall changes how the car gets on the trailer.
If the owner takes the instruction literally, and there is no good reason not to, the car does not get driven up a ramp under its own power. That makes it a winch load. Enclosed equipment varies on this point more than people expect. Some rigs carry a winch as standard, some carry one that is rated for a 3,500 pound coupe and not much more, and some do not carry one at all. It is a question to ask before the booking is dispatched, not at the ramp with a driver on a schedule. The same applies to liftgate versus ramp loading, since a liftgate removes the ramp angle but not the need to move the car onto it.
Tie-downs deserve a second look too. The fastener NHTSA describes is the single bolt holding each wheel to the hub. Soft ties run over the tire and pull load down through the wheel and hub assembly. Chassis and suspension hooks route load somewhere else. Being honest about the limits of what is known here: NHTSA's consequence language is about detachment causing loss of control, which describes a car being driven, and a short winch pull at walking pace over a level ramp is not the same loading case as a track session. Nobody should be guessing at that distinction on the loading deck. Our read is that soft ties over the tire versus hard chassis tie-downs is worth settling with the carrier in advance on these cars specifically.
Then the calendar. Owner letters do not go out until December 15, which leaves roughly eight weeks where affected cars carry an open stop-drive recall and no scheduled appointment. The dealer network equipped for GT3 RS and GT4 RS work is thinner than the general Porsche network, so the trip to the fix is not always across town. Transport is the compliant way to make that trip.
What to do about it
Run the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls first. The lookup has carried the new population since October 20, and a clean result ends the question. Porsche customer service is 1-800-767-7243 for campaign status and dealer scheduling.
If the car is affected, disclose it when you request the quote rather than at pickup. Ask three things: whether the carrier has a winch rated for the car, whether they will load it without it being driven, and how they intend to tie it down. The enclosed desk that fulfills Citadel bookings would rather price a winch load up front than find out at the curb, and policies differ between carriers in our broker network.
Book door to door. A terminal handoff means somebody drives the car at least a short distance, which is the thing the recall says not to do. The tradeoffs are in our door to door versus terminal to terminal notes.
Photograph each center lock and the wheel face on the condition report, and note the open campaign number on it. Loading specifics for these cars live on the 911 GT3 and 718 GT4 RS pages, and if the car is going to move while the recall is open, read how enclosed shipping insurance treats a known open defect before you need to.
