Porsche delivered 178,532 cars worldwide in the first nine months of 2026, down 16 percent from 212,509 in the same period last year, according to figures the company published on October 9. The 911 was the only model line that grew. It accounted for 42,217 deliveries, up 12 percent year on year.

Everything else contracted. The 718 Boxster and Cayman fell 79 percent to 3,291 as the last cars from a production run that ended in October 2025 worked through the pipeline. The Panamera dropped 35 percent to 13,714 and the Taycan 31 percent to 8,699. The Macan fell 21 percent to 51,025, split 23,029 electric and 27,996 combustion, with combustion production ending over the summer. The Cayenne was close to flat at 59,586, down 2 percent, and includes 7,002 all-electric cars since that variant launched. North America took 56,088 cars, down 13 percent. China fell 33 percent to 21,493.

Matthias Becker, Porsche's board member for sales and marketing, framed the 911 result as customers "deliberately choosing the exclusive and most emotionally engaging versions of our sports cars," and restated the company's value-over-volume position.

The transport angle

The headline decline matters less to an enclosed carrier than the composition behind it. Work the arithmetic: the 911 was close to 24 percent of Porsche's worldwide deliveries through September, against roughly 18 percent a year earlier. The lines that shrank are the ones that move on open trailers without special handling. The Cayenne sits at 8.5 inches of ground clearance and is a routine open-trailer load. The Macan is the same story. Those two are most of the volume Porsche lost in percentage terms outside China.

The line that grew is the one that constrains equipment. A current 911 GT3 measures 3.8 inches of ground clearance on lowered PASM suspension, which puts it outside the loading angle of a standard ramp. Becker's "top derivatives" language points the same direction: GT and Turbo cars, not base Carreras. Carbon-ceramic brakes on those cars are also tie-down sensitive, which is why the enclosed desk that fulfills Citadel bookings treats a GT3 as a soft-strap job rather than a chain-and-hook job.

That combination tightens a narrow part of the fleet. Enclosed trailers are already a small share of national capacity, and liftgate-equipped enclosed trailers are a smaller share of that. A mix shifting toward low-clearance sports cars raises demand for the scarcest equipment on the board while total Porsche volume is falling. Owners read the volume number and assume shipping got easier. For a GT3 or a GT4, it did not.

The 718 number carries a second effect. With production finished and 2026 deliveries down to 3,291, the car moves from new-delivery logistics to the collector market, where it ships enclosed by default rather than by request. The Cayman GT4 at 3.9 inches has the same loading profile as the 911 it sits beside.

The Taycan decline cuts the other way. At 4,566 pounds it is one of the heavier cars in the Porsche range, and fewer of them in the delivery stream means slightly less pressure on per-car weight limits inside multi-car enclosed loads.

What to do about it

Specify the loading method when you book, not when the driver arrives. A liftgate request made at pickup on a GT3 or a GT4 RS usually means a reschedule, because the truck that showed up has ramps.

Give the lane more lead time than the volume figures suggest. Two weeks is a workable target for a liftgate enclosed slot on a major corridor, and more than that into or out of a secondary market. Compare that against the ranges in our cost model before assuming a quote is high: liftgate capacity prices separately from standard enclosed service.

Confirm declared value in writing against the car's current market figure rather than its original window sticker, and ask what the carrier's cargo policy actually covers on a car with carbon-ceramic brakes and active aero. Those two items drive more claims friction on modern 911s than body damage does.

A $184,000 Ferrari Sold for $2.7M Because Jordan Owned It

Joopiter closed Michael Jordan's 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello on September 30 at $2.7 million, against a $700,000 to $1.3 million estimate. Classic.com's average for the model is $184,008. Almost all of that gap is paperwork.
